DBM Global Senior Risk Manager in Phoenix, Arizona

Position Overview

This role is a senior insurance/risk management position, influencing decisions on risk management issues affecting our business units. Accountable for achieving strategic objectives, including directing the purchase of insurance programs, assist in the management of claims and loss control activities. This role is also responsible for the management of relationships with third party service providers including brokers, insurers, sureties and TPAs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day interaction between all project participants, brokers and insurers related to risk management and insurance issues.

  • Manage all aspects of contract review as relates to insurance and bonds issues, including coordination of contract review with legal.

  • Analyze and understand insurable risks and potential risk mitigation opportunities; interact with operational groups to ensure coordination between project activities, exposures, and appropriate insurance coverage.

  • Review the appropriate insurance coverage and pricing for all new bids and projects.

  • Work with client/owner insurance representatives to ensure proper placement and coordination of any project specific insurance policies.

  • Lead communication efforts with broker and surety companies to facilitate timely delivery of project- specific performance and payment bonds.

  • Oversee claim management efforts (workers compensation, general liability, auto mobile liability, and property insurance) to include oversight of third-party administrators and insurers.

  • Review and analyze loss control and trending reports, and coordinate with Safety to develop appropriate action plans.

  • Maintain knowledge of trends in construction insurance industry, including thorough working knowledge of insurance products, coverage, and pricing.

  • Assist with compilation and development of data for annual renewal of corporate property and casualty insurance program, including management of brokers, approval of submissions, and negotiation of terms and premiums.

  • Assist with budgets, forecasts and financial reports, including the analysis of annual insurance premiums, financial performance of insurance programs, and determination of billing rates and premium allocations.

  • Research, evaluate and make recommendations regarding trends in risk management and loss control strategies.

  • Assist with budgets, forecasts, financial reports, premium allocations, premium audits and retro calculations.

  • Lead and facilitate claim review meetings and analysis of claim reserves.

  • Review proposed projects, identifying and analyzing significant risk management and insurance issues, making appropriate recommendations.

  • Negotiate and maintain strong relationships with and manage services provided by insurers, brokers, program administrators and other service providers necessary to the management of the risk management programs.

  • Establish contract standards for insurance and indemnification wording; review contracts and other legal documents to evaluate risk related provisions, assuring competitiveness and compliance with insurance and risk management policies.

  • Assist with internal communication and strategies related to program recommendations and risk management initiatives.

  • Develop standard processes and procedures for risk management functions.

  • Develop and implement relevant risk management policies, training, and communication to appropriate business units.

  • Supervise and lead staff to accomplish Risk Management goals and initiatives.

    Work Experience

    Ten (10) + years of related work experience as a Risk Manager, or Risk Management broker within the construction/architectural/engineering industry. Additional years of experience may substitute for educational requirements. Experience must also entail international policies and networks.

    Education/Training

    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field is required. Additional training in Commercial Insurance, Construction Management, Construction Finance, Surety Bonds, and/or Risk Management is preferred. Certification in PRM, CRIS or CRM also preferred.

    Software & Technology

    Office 360, MS Office software including: MS Word, MS Excel, Smartsheet's, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint; Appropriate accounting/risk management software; Kronos Time Keeping Software or appropriate TKS. Ability to navigate/learn third party portals. Advanced MS Excel is required.

    Work Environment

    Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Position may require occasional out of state air/road travel as needed and required. A clean driving record maybe required if road travel necessary. Current and valid driver’s license and proof of acceptable insurance is required. This position is generally indoors in a climate-controlled office. However, frequent visitations to the outdoor plant facilities and job-site maybe necessary.
