Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking candidates to become a Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer to support mining, geotechnical, and civil infrastructure projects in our Phoenix offices . The qualified candidate shall have a minimum of 2 years of experience with a strong background in geotechnical investigation practice. The position requires effective verbal skills to communicate with internal teams and clients. Written communication skills in the form of technical reports are a must. Additional experience preferred includes: task management, geotechnical analytical skills, geologic modeling, and experience in geotechnical laboratory testing.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Candidate will have an opportunity to be involved in the construction of in-house designs, which will build on existing client relationships and lead to future projects.

  • Engage in regional projects with other offices and disciplines.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.

  • Execute project assignments while utilizing critical thinking, engineering procedures to carry out project tasks.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

  • Recognize potential opportunities for additional work within an existing project or for an existing client.

  • Use computer programs including GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, Settle3, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.

  • Preparing Project Work Plans and Health and Safety Plans.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Geological Engineering

  • 2+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Valid driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology preferred.

  • 3+ years of related experience in Geotechnical Engineering projects.

  • Arizona PE license or ability to obtain Arizona PE license within 6 months

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

  • Experience using geotechnical software.

  • Solid understanding of field work

  • The ability to work well within a team

  • Project site travel required for this role as needed. (est. up to 66%)

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $63,000.00 - $90,000.00.
