Job Overview:

The Flavor Compounding Lab Technician is responsible for assisting in the creation and testing of flavor compounds under the guidance of flavorists and researchers. This role involves meticulous preparation, measurement, mixing of flavor ingredients to ensure quality control and consistency, flavor and flavor material application . Additionally, the technician will support global tech transfer and collaborate with the flavor analytical lab for sample preparation whenever needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compounding Flavors:

  • Accurately measure and blend raw materials to create flavor compounds as per standardized formulas or project-specific requirements.

  • Maintain detailed records of all formulations and procedures followed.

  • Application:

  • Apply flavor ingredients into different bases for flavorist evaluation and stability;

  • Apply flavorist proposals into the base for evaluation;

  • Prepare samples for stability testing and monitor results, making adjustments as necessary.

  • Equipment Maintenance:

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring all items are calibrated and in proper working order.

  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards within the lab.

  • Research Support:

  • Assist flavorists and researchers with projects including sample preparation and documentation.

  • Participate in research and development projects as needed.

  • Inventory Management:

  • Manage raw material inventories, ensuring proper storage and handling.

  • Assist in ordering and receiving supplies and raw materials as needed.

  • Work with Burlington and suppliers for ordering materials.

  • Collaboration with Flavor Analytical Lab:

  • Work closely with the flavor analytical lab to ensure accurate and consistent sample preparation for analytical testing and Tech Transfer.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any discrepancies in analytical results in collaboration with the analytical lab team.

  • Technology Transfer:

  • Support global technology centers (GTCs) in the transfer of flavor technologies and compounds.

  • Assist in preparing and shipping samples for technology transfer projects, ensuring adherence to global standards.

  • Collaborate with international teams to facilitate effective communication and implementation of new processes and products.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, with preference for additional coursework or certification in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.

  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within the food and beverage industry or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ​​​​​​​ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to follow precise instructions and standardized procedures.

  • Good sensory evaluation capabilities.

  • Basic understanding of chemistry and food science principles.

  • Proficient with Google tools and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

  • Effective communication skills for liaising with Product Development and GTCs..

Safety Requirements:

  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety glasses.

  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of chemicals and biological materials following safety guidelines.

  • Conduct regular safety checks and report any hazards or incidents to the safety officer or laboratory manager.

  • Participate in safety training sessions and stay updated on relevant safety regulations and procedures.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in a laboratory setting that may involve exposure to various flavor materials and operational lab equipment.

  • May involve occasional lifting of materials and standing for extended periods during work.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $75.000,00 - $85.000,00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
