Job Summary:

Atlas is seeking an experienced CMT Lab Manager / CMT Materials Testing Technician to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. This individual will primarily be overseeing the CMT Lab as well as providing field testing and inspections of concrete, masonry, soils, aggregates, and asphalt.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Managing the laboratory operations and performing laboratory tests on construction and geologic materials including but not limited to; soils, aggregates, concrete, mortar, grout, and asphalt.

• Maintaining the laboratory’s accreditations by continuing with the upkeep of documents such as equipment calibrations, test results, and evaluations.

• Assign and track test samples through the company Laboratory Information Management System.

• Data entry of laboratory test results and production of deliverable reports of laboratory results.

• Communicate with others as applicable regarding laboratory results, project requirements, testing, observation, and report inspection requirements and results. / Communicating with field staff, engineering staff, clients, and contractors effectively and professionally.

• Keep the laboratory organized and in compliance with company and industry safety requirements.

• Familiarity with reading and interpreting industry standards and specifications.

• Performs construction-related field tests as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Senior Engineer.

• Daily commutable travels to various construction sites primarily throughout Pennsylvania, with the occasional overnight and/or weekend work when required. Out-of-state travel is typically voluntary.

• Relays information to project manager and/or engineer, with limited in-field decision making.

• Transports equipment, test specimens and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provides physical assistance in equipment set-up.

• Enters daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.

• Performs field quality control tests of concrete and masonry construction.

• Performs field density testing on soil, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.

• Assists other technicians or professional staff on tasks, and supports other departments as necessary.

• Mentorship and training support of other technicians and interns.

• Follows Atlas’ safety policies and procedures. / Possess a safety-conscious attitude toward work, and ensure performance within Atlas safety guidelines.

• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specs

• Ability to follow Atlas' QC plan and SOP's

Minimum Requi rements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Experience in construction materials laboratory and testing operations

  • 5 years minimum experience with concrete, masonry, soils, and asphalt testing and Inspections.

  • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 50 lbs, stoop, bend, and stand throughout the course of a day in varying weather conditions in varying terrain.

  • Motivated, career-oriented individual striving to learn and achieve within the construction industry.

  • Must be willing to travel near the reporting office and surrounding areas as required by assignments.

  • Works well independently.

Technical Requirements:

  • Must have a basic understanding of AMRL, CCRL and AASHTO accreditation procedures and documentations

  • ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician Certification.

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1

  • Nuclear Gauge User Safety Certification

Other Miscellaneous Qualities:

Preferences

• Secondary education within the field. e.g. Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Geology, etc.

• Valid ICC, NICET, NETTCP, or other pertinent industry certifications.

• Special Inspection experience including Firestop, FF/FL, RH & pH, Bolting Inspections, etc.
