DESCRIPTION OF WORK CYF Caseworkers provide protective and supportive services for abused/neglected children and families and, depending upon assignment, provide counseling services to children, families, foster parents and/or adoptive parents. The Caseworker also participates in Conferencing and Teaming to help families with their plan goals including safety and self sufficiency, participates in crisis intervention where appropriate, and presents case facts and testimony in Children's Court.
New CYF Caseworkers work under the general supervision of a Casework Supervisor for a six month probation period and complete a ten-week curriculum consisting of both classroom and field work. New Caseworkers are responsible for working with a family from the point the family is referred to DHS/CYF until they are no longer involved with the agency
Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch. Schedules vary and travel is required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Allegheny County. If no eligible candidates who live within Allegheny County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
