Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Custodian - Ref#1451 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Warhol is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, and a collaborative project between Carnegie Institute, Dia Art Foundation, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. Plans to house The Warhol in Pittsburgh were announced in 1989, and the museum opened its doors during a 24-hour celebration on May 13, 1994. Originally built in 1911 as a distribution center for products sold to mills and mines, The Warhol was redesigned by architect Richard Gluckman and features seven floors of gallery and exhibition space as well as an underground level that houses The Factory education studio and the conservation lab. *The Custodian *is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the interior and exterior of the Carnegie buildings, including, but not limited to offices, public areas, galleries, stairwells, elevators, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prefer basic reading and writing skills, knowledge of various cleaning materials and tools, safety rules and practices pertaining to the trade.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work from ladder and scaffold, climb, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
- This position requires working various schedules and times including daylight, evenings, nights, and weekend.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Requisitions cleaning supplies and equipment from supervisor.
- Exercises judgment and efficiency in the use of equipment and assures the acceptable appearance of all areas cleaned.
- Sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes and polishes floors. Vacuums and shampoos rugs. Washes and cleans light fixtures, baseboards, windows, doorframes, and dusts surfaces.
- Scours and polishes sinks, mirrors, toilet bowls and similar equipment in restrooms, mops floors, fills restroom dispensing machines.
- Gathers and removes trash and garbage containers.
- Cleans glass, inside and outside of windows, stainless steel, railings and brass fixtures.
- May need to assist in the performance of cutting grass and shrubbery, removing debris, mulching and weeding, cleaning walks and snow removal.
- Sets up or moves tables, chairs and boxes as instructed.
- Changes lights as assigned utilizing ladders and vertical mechanical lifts.
- May need to assist with unloading of trucks, moving boxes and equipment and erecting scaffolding.
- Uses ladders to perform duties above ground level.
- Learns to use all new technologies, equipment and tools as they become available.
- Maintains and operates tools, equipment (including vehicles), materials, and machines in a safe, sound condition and maintains a safe, orderly and clean work area.
- Responds to emergency calls.
- Provides support for special events.
- Completes work order and PM requests in a timely and proper manner.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Observes safety and security procedures.
- Must follow work rules, regulations and procedures of FP&O and the Institute.
- Exhibits courtesy and sensitivity in interactions with the various internal and external customers.

- Custodial Supervisor may assign other duties to meet mission requirements of FP&O.
The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.
