Department Administrator

 

Serves in an advanced professional capacity as the Departmental Administrator for the Department of Infectious Diseases & Microbiology within the School of Public Health. Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to): budget planning, fiscal administration, personnel management, student-related activities, and other varied managerial/supervisory aspects within a network of inter-and intra-department research, training, and service activities. Coordinates and performs administrative functions for and with the Department Chairperson including problem intervention, space planning and utilization. Incumbent must be able to act independently to determine, interpret and execute Department, School and University policies and procedures. Reports directly to the Department Chairperson.

Job Summary

Directs the daily operations of multiple institution organizational units or a large, multi-faceted academic, research, and teaching department within a school or college, including finance, human resources, payroll, information technology, operations and management of facilities, accounting, grant management, and purchasing. Oversees strategic planning, future direction of programs, and allocation of resources. Controls expenditures and directs special projects.

Physical Effort

Position is generally sedentary. Requires walking around the office, campus, and the Oakland area to attend meetings. Light lifting may be needed.
