TRMI manages, among other things, the historical environmental liabilities at RCRA, CERCLA, and state-regulated sites nationwide associated with the discontinued manufacturing operations of various subsidiaries of Heidelberg Materials.

We are looking for an experienced Environmental manager to join out TRMI office. Reporting to TRMI’s Director of Environmental Services, this position will ensure that these legacy environmental liabilities are managed effectively and efficiently in compliance with all laws and regulations, while maintaining the integrity and reputation of Heidelberg Materials.

TRMI’s office is located in Pittsburgh, PA, but flexible remote/hybrid work options are available, including work from other select locations within the United States.

What you’ll get to do

  • Develop site-specific objectives and strategies;

  • Develop and monitor comprehensive financial projections for assigned sites, including: annual budgets and cash flow projections along with long-term provision estimates;

  • Ensure the proper execution of site investigations, remedial designs, remediation activities, permitting and compliance activities, and operation, maintenance & monitoring services consistent with annual plans;

  • Procure, lead, and manage outside resources involved with this work;

  • Conduct regulatory agency negotiations and interactions with the public and other site stakeholders; and,

  • Promote strong expectations for contractors’ health & safety performance.

  • Negotiate and work with regulators, property owners, local government officials, and concerned citizens;

  • Organize and lead diverse technical professionals from different organizations into a cohesive team working to implement site-specific strategies;

  • Utilize clear and effective written and oral communication skills across a wide range of audiences;

  • Interact with Heidelberg Materials US, Inc. senior management regarding the strategy, finances, and operations of TRMI;

  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external legal, technical, finance, audit, and accounting resources;

  • Create cost efficiencies through portfolio-wide solutions; and,

  • Provide leadership within multi-party potentially responsible party (PRP) groups.

  • Working conditions may include, wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or hazardous materials, extreme cold or heat temperatures

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (Geology, Environmental Sciences, Toxicology or other related degrees will also be considered). Advanced degree a plus

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of environmental design, remediation, and/or compliance experience (advanced degree may be considered relevant experience);

  • Minimum 2 years of project management experience utilizing cost tracking practices and systems;

  • Experience working within Federal and State environmental remediation and clean-up programs, including CERCLA and RCRA;

  • Strong management, leadership, team building, problem solving, communication, technical writing, and influencing skills across a wide range of audiences;

  • Ability to work independently – but knowing when to ask questions and seek the assistance and input of others;

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist license

  • Current 40-hour OSHA training certification a plus
