DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Summary: Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking an entry to mid-level Environmental Scientist experienced in performing Environmental Assessments, surface and groundwater water sampling and monitoring, soil and other material sampling, and other investigative activities for our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. Experience in the mining, renewable energy, or oil and gas industry is a plus, but not required. The work will primarily be located in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, but could extend to Kentucky, Virginia, or Indiana. Having a fundamental understanding and working knowledge of environmental rules and regulations in the above listed states would be beneficial but not required.

The successful candidate will work on a variety of environmental permitting/site investigation / remediation projects and site investigations at industrial / commercial sites and / or government installations and conduct site assessment for real estate transactions. Duties will include performing routine, well-defined field and office assignments (technical and non-technical) including planning, conducting, and reporting on field investigations involving well installations, soil, surface water and groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, and hydrogeology. Work may be conducted under a variety of regulatory programs (Oil and Gas, Mining, Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Reclamation, Abandoned (or acid) Mine Drainage (AMD) Treatment, Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), and Brownfields) primarily in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. The successful candidate will receive detailed instructions on work objectives, complex features and possible solutions, and they will receive close supervision and review of their work. With experience, they may be assigned more complex tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.

Your Role:  * Field Activities including sampling various environmental matrices and wastes; sampling and collecting measurements at monitoring wells; Phase I ESAs; stream and discharge sampling and flow measurements; field data collection, analysis and interpretation.  * Prepare or assist with the development of maps, charts, spreadsheets, boring logs, and cross-sections depicting subsurface conditions.  * Run simple computer programs.  * Perform field testing using equipment and instrumentation.  * Prepare field reports, internal correspondence, sections of final reports, and regulatory reporting.  * Oversee subcontractors and / or other company employees in the field.  * Prepare health and safety plans / job hazard analyses and follow company / site safety standards.  * Contact vendors; research literature and regulatory requirements.  * Conduct scientific calculations.  * Infiltration testing to support mid-stream permitting and construction projects.  * Sample collection using various sampling methods including hand auger, bailers, pumps and low flow sampling techniques.  * Maintain and calibrate field equipment and instruments.  * Accurate documentation of field conditions, field measurements, sample custody, comply with client safety requirements including donning client specified personal protective equipment and routine drug screening.  * OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training is beneficial but not required.

Qualifications:  * A BS degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Resource Management, Geology, Geosciences, or closely related field.  * Some experience is preferred but not required.  * 40-hour OSHA - HAZWOPER training is also preferred but not required.  * Experience in environmental consulting or related experience preferred.  * Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations preferred.  * Strong oral and written communication/interpersonal skills are a must.  * Additional qualifications such as Geologist in Training (GIT), OSHA 8-hour supervisory training, OSHA 30-hour general construction training, First Aid/CPR/AED training will be viewed favorably.  * A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.  * Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
