The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is recruiting outstanding basic/translational science faculty at the Research Assistant Professor level to join one of the seven CCSG-supported and approved established programs. These programs are internationally recognized for breakthrough research in DNA repair and responses to genotoxic stress, cell death pathways, signal transduction pathways, cancer virus discovery and viral contributions to cancer, cancer immunology and the tumor microenvironment, cancer immunotherapy, epidemiology, cancer biology, and genome stability.

Successful candidates will have PhD, MD, or equivalent in Molecular Virology and must have a track record of publications and research on the fundamental molecular biology of Merkel cell polyomavirus and its ability to cause human cancers, including investigations of its viral oncogenes and their interactions with the host cell.

The applicant will be expected to independently develop specific hypotheses and experimental approaches to these research problems, supervise laboratory technicians, supervise and train graduate students, and contribute to routine laboratory duties. In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to developing IACUC and IRB protocols. Based on successful progress in this research, the applicant is expected to apply for external funding (e.g., NIH grants) that can lead to the development of an independent research program.

Research Assistant Professor candidates shall have experience in cutting-edge cancer research in the field of Basic and/or Translational Research. The ideal Candidate shall be an established independent investigator with interdisciplinary translational research in biology, significant publications, and extramural grant funding. The candidate will have a strong record in teaching and mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members. The candidate should have a strong commitment to collaborating with clinical and/or translational scientists and have the necessary skills for grant writing and producing peer-reviewed publications.
