Hillman Library Collections Access Specialist

This position works as part of the University Library System Public and Access Services team in Hillman Library providing knowledgeable and courteous service for library users in locating and utilizing materials and resources effectively. This includes providing outstanding library services to patrons at the Donald S. Wood Service Desk by establishing a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere while providing high-quality ready reference and directional assistance to library users in-person, on-line, or via phone and instant messaging.

In addition, this position maintains primary job responsibilities for Hillman Library Public and Access services together with other team members. This encompasses managing request processing, ensuring timely delivery and digitization services, collaborating with colleagues to maintain item availability, providing support for physical collections, spaces, and stacks maintenance, coordinating facility moves and events, and maintaining organization within library collections in conjunction with student employees. Also includes participation with resource sharing both internally and externally, assisting in course reserve services, and troubleshooting technology-related issues. Moreover, handling billing and payment services to various degrees, and ensuring smooth financial processes across Oakland ULS libraries

Hours of work (generally) are: Mon-Fri 1:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. -- subject to change as department needs arise, with advance notice -- with occasional hours on weekends and University holidays as required.

Job Summary

Assists personnel, answers inquiries, locates materials, and provides guidance related to library services. Researches and identifies resources to support informational needs. Maintains and updates online library systems and guides student employees.

Essential Functions

Must be able to receive and respond to users' requests in-person, by phone, and on-line. Must be able to move freely through the Hillman Library and use ladders to reach higher shelves as necessary. Must be able to read and use scholarly resources in print and online.

Physical Effort

Incumbent must be able to move freely throughout the library. Must be able to work for extended periods at a Service Desk. May be required to move about campus to assist with patron library delivery services. Must be able to, on occasion: - Lift and handle heavy bound books and journals. - Lift standard full US postal bins containing library materials. - Package and open mail containing library materials: full boxes, single mailers, and envelopes. - Maneuver full standard library book-trucks, large transfer/storage book-bins, and hampers.
