Laboratory Manager II

The Byrne Lab at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Ophthalmology department is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and highly organized individual to join our team as a full-time Lab Manager, who will also support our teams viral vector packaging work.

Qualifications: prior experience with viral vector packaging is not required, but experience with cell culture and sterile technique is highly preferred. The position requires a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (biology, neuroscience, or other related field). The candidate should be highly motivated, dependable, self-driven, and organized, with good interpersonal and time-management skills. A passion for gene therapy research and eagerness to learn new methodologies are more important than any specific laboratory skills!

Job Summary

Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Develops and collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.

Essential Functions

Duties will include viral vector packaging and associated molecular biology, such as DNA cloning, preparation and validation of vectors and plasmids, and placing orders for lab reagents and coordinating shipments.

Physical Effort

Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
