Laboratory Technician
The Cancer Genomics Facility, a core laboratory for the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, seeks an enthusiastic and skilled laboratory technician. Under the supervision of the Facility Manager, the incumbent will perform technical skills of a highly specialized nature. Involving: data entry, sample retrieval, histology; imaging; nucleic acid extraction; sample quality control; PCR including real time PCR; NGS library prep WES, RNASeq, spatial, and single cell prep; and other miscellaneous molecular biology techniques. The individual must be able to concurrently manage multiple laboratory protocols. The individual should be able to effectively communicate progress of research projects via preparation of written reports and meetings with the Facility Manager.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
Perform bench work, database management. Candidate will spend most of the time either performing bench work for example QC, NGS library prep or at the computer for example: data entry, data retrieval.
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
