DESCRIPTION OF WORK A Medical Records Assistant with the DMVA handles and protects sensitive, private, legally privileged, and confidential data and information by releasing, distributing, sharing, or conveying data and information only in accordance with established requirements and only to authorized individuals. You use and maintain current knowledge with the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision and Tenth Revision, Clinical Modifications (ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM) coding conventions.

Duties include preparing the medical record upon admission. You input information into the chart and review medical documentation to identify deficiencies such as missing or incomplete information. You communicate these deficiencies with physicians and other clinical staff for clarification. You also ensure medical documentation meets the internal regulations of the facility and of other departments such as the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, and the Veterans Administration. Upon discharge or death of a resident, you are responsible for following the procedure for the completion of the discharge chart. Examples of this duty include assembling, analyzing, final checking, and final filing.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or Graduation from a medical secretarial or medical records program;or Any equivalent combination of experience and training. A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination. This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
