UPMC Ophthalmic Technician I- UPMC Urgent Eye Care Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to support the Urgent Eye Care Center located at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh PA, 15219. This role will work Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm (occasional travel may be required- 5%)

Backed by the expertise of the UPMC Vision Institute, the Urgent Eye Care Clinic specializes in sudden eye problems.

Our specially trained first responders provide eye care that most Pittsburgh-area ERs or urgent care centers don't offer.

The Urgent Eye Care Clinic treats symptoms of a range of acute eye conditions for patients 15 and older, including:

  • Sudden vision loss.

  • Scratched corneas.

  • Red or painful eyes.

  • New flashes or floaters.

Responsibilities:

  • Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -

  • imaging; OCT, OPTOS & HVF

  • Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.

  • History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.

  • Lensometry: automated and manual

  • Angle assessment & dilation of pupils

  • Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.

  • Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields

  • Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test

  • Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus

  • Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of

  • Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.

  • Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Valid CPR certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 34
