Outpatient Clinical Research Coordinator

 

  • The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division of the DOM is hiring for an Outpatient Clinical Research Coordinator. The division is led by division chief Alison Morris, MD and Executive Administrator Emily Joseph. The division is made of up approximately 70 clinical staff and over 100 research staff who work in a variety of locations including: Bridgeside Point, Biomedical Science Tower (BST), UPMC Hospitals including Presbyterian, Shadyside, East, Jameson and Mercy. The division provides world class services across 10 inpatient services at five hospitals and over 70,000 outpatient office visits. We have a major research mission that focuses on basic, clinical, and translational research on the lung, microbiome, COVID-19, sleep medicine, and allergy and immunology.

     

The role will be based in the Comprehensive Lung Center and work with patients, physicians, and scientific investigators to describe clinical trials to patients and help scientists identify new populations for recruitment. This incumbent will work with a variety of principal investigators to recruit new subjects into clinical trials. This role will be a great development opportunity to gain exposure in a clinical and research environment.

Job Summary

Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Recruits research subjects and conducts interviews and research assessments.

Essential Functions

Work in a fast-paced outpatient clinical environment, building effective communication and relationships with clinic staff (nurses, medical assistants, administrative staff) and the clinical care team to improve recruitment for clinical trials and studies requiring outpatient subject enrollment Data Management: Oversee the collection, entry, and management of research data, ensuring data integrity and security. Collaborate with investigators and research staff to ensure timely and accurate data reporting for clinical trials and research studies. Master the use of the electronic medical record (Epic EMR) for querying, tracking, and storing information about participants Communicate directly with patients/potential enrollment participants about different types of clinical trials or research studies, reviewing protocols and answering general research questions Liaison with Research Teams: Serve as the primary point of contact between the pulmonary clinic and research sponsors, study monitors, and regulatory authorities. Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to support the successful execution of research projects.

Physical Effort

Must be able to sit and stand for up to 8 hours. May require pushing patients in wheelchairs and walking through campus.
