The University of Pittsburgh Student Health Services provides high quality primary health care, prevention, health education and pharmacy services to enhance student living and learning. Primary care services include management of both acute and chronic conditions as well as travel health and provision of gender affirming care. The Gynecological services include screening for STIs, provision of age specific screening as well as full contraceptive management. Psychiatric services include management of mood disorders as well as ADHD. Student Health Services is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), these services uphold rigorous standards of quality and safety, promoting a healthy environment conducive to academic success.

Job Summary

Performs patient care tasks that require nursing skills, assesses and evaluates illnesses and injuries, administers medications, and provides referrals. Collaborates with staff in departmental development of health and clinical services policies and procedures. Assists physicians and clinical staff, charts orders, coordinates services, documents treatments, and utilizes an electronic database. Maintains inventory and creates supply orders. Ensures policy and procedural compliance with all health regulations.

Essential Functions

Assesses and evaluates illnesses and injuries including, but not limited to, health options, triage and assessments, dressing changes, specimen collection, venipunctures, initiates IV therapies, performs simple suture removal, provides referrals when necessary, and administers appropriate medications.

Collaborates with other clinical staff in the development of departmental policies and clinical procedures regarding the area of health/clinical services; collaborates with other clinical staff to ensure continuity of patient care and meet patient care needs.

Assists the physician and/or other clinical staff in the planning and implementation of patient care. Observes, documents, and communicates to the physician and/or other clinical staff symptoms, potential problems, and pertinent information regarding patient care.

Charts doctor orders, coordinates departmental services, and guides student health referral process.

Documents treatment, office visits, and monthly statistics. Enters records into electronic database in a timely and accurate manner. Completes reports, requisitions, and informational materials as directed.

Maintains an inventory of medical supplies; creates supply orders.

Maintains a clean, safe, and inviting environment.

Ensures policy and procedural compliance with all health regulations.

Physical Effort

Heavy physical effort required. Requires extensive standing, moving, ascend/descend, bending, lifting, and/or carrying. May be required to move objects over 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment
