UPMC Sr. Advanced Care Paramedic - CAS, UPMC Your Care in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Your Care is hiring a Full-time Paramedic working various 10–13-hour shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday - Sunday.

The Advanced Care paramedic is a vital member of the UPMC Your Care program for Medicare members, providing urgent and episodic care to members in their homes or other locations. The paramedic works under the supervision of a physician and a nurse clinical care coordinator and collaborates with other health care professionals of the UPMC Your Care interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, member-centered, and cost-effective care.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a role model for professional paramedic practice. Demonstrates a passion for developing others. Identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement. Builds and mends relationships among colleagues within the framework of a healthy workplace. CLINICAL Performs thorough hands-on member assessments and history-taking and clinical exam, utilizing diagnostic equipment including ECG, point-of-care laboratory testing, and other advanced adjuncts to investigate symptoms and complaints. Assesses member for geriatric syndromes such as falls, functional decline, sleep disorders, delirium, dementia, bladder / bowel problems, polypharmacy, and weight loss. Understands care for the older adult and palliative care interventions.

  • Responds to all requests in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to system standards, policies and procedures, and other established practices.? Participates in projects and initiatives to continue the advancement of this growing team. Presents or contributes to complex case reviews by the interdisciplinary team summarizing clinical and social history, current medications, geriatric syndromes, healthcare resource utilization, case management interventions. Maintains operational readiness by completing required equipment and medication checks and logs on an established schedule.

  • Safely operates a company vehicle, avoiding distractions while driving. Supports safe vehicle operation by coworkers, providing navigation and communication support during response.

We will consider all levels of the career ladder for Advanced Care Paramedic and senior role. The final title and pay will be determined by the requirements.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Three years clinical experience in prehospital or hospital care.

  • Must have at least 6 months experience within the department. One professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your administration. Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on performance evaluation to be promoted to this level. Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status. Must be eligible to receive medical command authorization by the Medical Director, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to any residence or venue of care within the defined service area. Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job training. Must have the ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam that includes a fitness for duty physical exam, hearing evaluation, and be declared fit for duty by the Medical Director.

Advanced Care Paramedic requirements: $19.92 - $33.12

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Three years clinical experience in prehospital or hospital care

  • Must be eligible to receive medical command authorization by the Medical Director, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to any residence or venue of care within the defined service area. Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job training. Must have the ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment.* Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam that includes a fitness for duty physical exam, hearing evaluation, and be declared fit for duty by the Medical Director. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Automotive Insurance

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Driver's License

  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification

  • Paramedic

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

  • OAPSA
