Summary:

Directs the activities of and provides guidance to Distribution design group. Ensure the timely delivery of complex distribution electrical engineering designs to the construction department or external contractors for system improvements and system maintenance projects to maintain the integrity and reliability of the DLCo substations according to DLCo standard design practices.

Location: Hybrid, Pittsburgh PA at Woods Run Complex (see Hybrid Work, below)

Responsibilities:

  • Directs the assignment and scheduling of complex electrical engineering design work, which meet Duquesne Light standards and all applicable industry codes, for a staff of Distribution Designers performing design work associated with the Distribution and Sub-transmission system additions or modifications to ensure the timely delivery of safe, efficient, reliable service to all customers. 35%

  • Monitor and report on progress of all projects, both internally and externally designed, to ensure schedules are and coordinate with all other support groups for timely availability of equipment and materials. 15%

  • Coordinate with the Training Department to ensure the necessary training and training materials are provided for the Distribution Designers on any new equipment and/or design standards. 5%

  • Create a working environment that fosters safety, teamwork, employee initiative and accountability to maintain high levels of productivity for assigned projects. Counsel and evaluate personnel performance. 15%

  • Perform Project Management function in reviewing/developing, project scopes, reports, design schedules, drawings, specifications, correspondence, design standards, recommendations, requisitions and cost estimates to ensure all designs are in a timely, cost-effective manner that meets DLCo standards and project scopes. 15%

  • Participate in standards discussions to ensure distribution design standard is effective and follows all recent company, local, and federal codes and any applicable changes. Provide training to distribution engineering design group on new standards and ensure proper implementation of new design standards. Provide significant oversight of the final engineering design to ensure all standard requirements have been met. 15%

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned and as necessary.

  • Support the restoration of customer’s power due to storm damage (see Storm Roles, below).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Science degree from an ABET accredited college/university required

  • Preferred disciplines: Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Five (5) years related experience required

  • Valid driver’s license is required for travel to and between sites

  • Master’s degree or above preferred

  • Professional Engineering Licensure preferred

Skills and Abilities Utilized in this Role Include:

  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission regulations.

  • Working knowledge of Oracle Customer Information Systems.

  • Working knowledge of Metering Systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.

  • Ability to provide direction and respond to irregularities or unusual operating conditions observed by employees during the course of their normal daily work.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, plan, and allocate work to others.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze and develop strategies to manage multiple people and/or projects.

  • Must be able to make clear, concise decisions under stressful conditions.

Scope:

Primary focus is on day-to-day management of operational execution for areas managed. Trains and develops staff. Plans the workflow. Directs available resources to accomplish process improvement. Leads workflow changes and implementations for direct team.

Decision Impact:

Problems and issues are undefined require detailed info gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand/resolve. Makes decisions that address workflow issues considering immediate impact on own function or work unit.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of three days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company. Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Data Governance

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
