Starting rate: $41.40
Note: This role can work the daylight, afternoon or backshift. Pick is based on seniority.
General Purpose:
Under semi-direct supervision, inspects cables and conduit systems, makes routine surveys in manholes and duct lines to determine the location of Duquesne Light Company facilities, makes routine tests in connection with work on the underground system.
Job Responsibilities:
Makes routine inspections of underground equipment, observing operating conditions and reporting conditions as found.
Inspects completed construction or repair work on cables or conduit system to determine if it has been performed in accordance with plans and construction standards, noting and reporting the differences.
Checks job files after completing inspection to assure that all information is correct and makes necessary map corrections.
Indicates location and type of Duquesne Light Company facilities as required. Uses proper instruments as required to establish locations and measurements from a reference point.
As required, monitors work being performed in close proximity to underground equipment and advises workers of the location of company facilities.
Prepares various routine reports on cable work from operating data.
Tags cables and performs other manual tasks such as pump out manholes and vaults.
Instructs and directs the work of a Helper.
Tests atmosphere in enclosed/confined work areas and performs all work in accordance with current safety regulations and policies.
Drives vehicles transporting employees, materials, and equipment to and from work locations as directed.
Prepares reports of inspection work and other required clerical work.
Performs other work as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements:
High school or trade school education.
Two and one-half years or more of experience in the Underground.
Ability to interpret construction drawings and work from circuit maps and duct maps.
Maintains the appropriate Driver’s License and required endorsements associated with the job requirements.
Demonstrated ability to do the work.
