Who we’re looking for
Toyota's One Tech SCaFT Department is seeking an experienced Creative Design System - Technical Product Manager to drive the UX design system strategy. This role combines deep creative design expertise with strategic product leadership to shape complex solutions that deliver business value across our global enterprise design platform.
This leader will oversee the creation and management of a global enterprise design system designed to deliver exceptional user experiences, strengthen brand identity, foster innovation, and enhance operational efficiency. As a creative leader, this role will combine vision, strategy, and design expertise to inspire innovation and ensure the design system becomes a strategic asset that drives value across the organization.
The position will serve as a critical link, leveraging design expertise to align business objectives with technical stakeholders. This role involves providing expert guidance on product design, design systems, strategy, component architecture, and implementation best practices while leading user researchers and designers working on a portfolio of multiple applications. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Design Platform, the Creative Design System Manager will be instrumental in fostering cross-functional collaboration, driving consistency, and ensuring design excellence across SCaFT.
What you’ll be doing
Leadership & Strategy
Drive the UX vision and strategy for the design system, ensuring it serves as a cohesive foundation across multiple product lines.
Lead the design discovery and feasibility assessments for complex product initiatives.
Guide designers on implementation strategies and best practices.
Collaborate with enterprise architects to ensure alignment with technical standards.
Product Development & Architecture
Lead a team of designers that transform complex business requirements into detailed design specifications.
Lead and define design governance standards.
Define UX strategies that scale across multiple application and stakeholders.
Guide teams on technical debt management and system optimization strategies.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
Translate complex technical concepts into business value for executive stakeholders.
Partner with engineering leads to ensure optimal technical implementation.
Lead design review sessions across the organization.
Present UX strategies and roadmaps to senior leadership.
Facilitate communication between business stakeholders and technical teams.
Technical Excellence & Innovation
Establish best practices for technical product management across teams.
Drive innovation through proof-of-concepts and technical pilot programs.
Define technical success metrics and performance indicators.
What you bring
Design and Technical Expertise
10+ years of experience in UX creative design roles, with at least 5 years in product management.
A robust portfolio showcasing your work with design systems, component libraries, and user-centered design practices.
Strong expertise in modern development frameworks and technologies.
Hands-on experience with user research, design thinking, and large-scale enterprise systems.
Proficiency in agile methodologies, prototyping, usability testing, data analytics and design system architecture.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality design work.
Experience in maintaining and versioning design systems, including rolling out and migrating products into a cohesive design system.
Expertise in leading designers to a design system and supporting cross-functional adoption.
Familiarity with conducting workshops and meetings to align stakeholders on design system needs and updates.
Knowledge of industry trends, design innovations, and emerging technologies to keep the design system current and relevant.
Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
Strong influence and negotiation skills with business and technical teams.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Design, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; OR commensurate work experience.
Continuous learning mindset with recent certifications.
Added bonus if you have
Data Analysis and Research Interpretation expertise: Using analytic tools to evaluate user feedback and component performance.
Experience working with large-scale or enterprise-level design systems to support complex, multi-team ecosystems.
Agile/Scrum certifications beneficial (e.g., CSPO, SAFe).
Background in automotive or manufacturing technology.
