Senior Manager, Cyber Technical (Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering)

We are currently seeking a dynamic leader with in-depth experience related to team building and management, vendor management and production support. This individual will be responsible for managing network security tooling used to manage our vendor products and guide the team regarding best practices regarding GCP Cloud Engineering network security methodologies. The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of data gathering and analysis techniques for network based traffic, have experience with production operations procedures with emphasis on resilience and reliability, and under the software automation and deployment best practices. The associate in this role will lead a team and a program to influence security standards and best practices as well as provide operational oversight for internet facing security appliances.

The Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) Technology division is responsible for enabling and evolving Capital One’s foundational cloud infrastructure layer, including observability, connectivity, resilience and availability.

The Google Cloud Connectivity Engineering team is committed to providing Capital One secure enterprise solutions for GCP to all product teams. We partner with internal stakeholders to ensure our GCP cloud enterprise technologies integrated within Capital One architecture are secure and compliant. As part of Capital Ones journey towards a well-managed polycloud our team looks to transform our GCP environment into a highly secure, scalable, and cost-efficient platform.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Challenge security engineering standards and ensure compliance.

  • Provide oversight and challenge to the engineering and DevOps strategy, tooling, processes and requirements

  • Provide guidance to a team building tooling to enhance security for infrastructure located at AWS.

  • Lead teams to provide operational excellence to critical infrastructure components for enterprise platforms

  • Guide best practices for security related appliances including following and implementing evolving industry standards.

  • Work closely across teams across the organization to ensure compliance with existing standards, identify gaps in existing standards and enhance standard governance procedures.

  • Work closely with enterprise architects, product managers, Cloud/DevOps engineers, and SRE teams to understand our processes and approaches and influence change where appropriate

  • Challenge and assess automation frameworks to support the platform products

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 6 years of experience in Information Technology or Cyber Security

  • At least 4 years of people management experience

  • At least 4 years experience leading a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Software Engineering organization

  • At least 3 years of practitioner or leadership experience with containerization and cloud technologies (AWS or GCP)

  • At least 3 years of experience managing vendors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 6+ years of people management experience

  • 5+ years of experience developing or challenging engineering practices through critical examination of problem and collaboration with team members and customers (developers, architects, engineers)

  • 5+ years of experience with the full spectrum of software engineering (build, integration, testing, and releasing or deployment)

  • 3+ years of experience in delivering software in a highly regulated environment, preferably financial services

  • 4 years of experience architecting, developing, or maintaining secure cloud solutions

  • Experience designing cloud enterprise solutions and supporting customer projects to completion

  • Cloud & DevOps Certifications (AWS Architect, Developer or Ops)

  • Deep understanding of cloud architecture network designs, implementations, and support (GCP, AWS)

  • Cloud certifications - Google Certified Professional Cloud Architect + Google Cloud Certified Security Engineer

  • Experience with leading enterprise multi cloud transformation programs

  • Experience with SRE principles and transformations

  • Experience with software coding techniques and shift left models

  • Experience working with KPI and KRI development related to software engineering
