W&M Fire Protection Services Fire Protection Estimator and Project Manager in Plantsville, Connecticut

Do you excel at both numbers and project management? Due to continued growth, W&M Fire Protection is looking to add a Fire Protection Estimator & Project Manager to our team in Plantsville, CT. We are a full-service fire protection contractor with complete design, installation, and fabrication capability. As a Fire Protection Estimator & Project Manager, you will play a dual role in shaping the future of fire safety. From initial cost estimation to overseeing project execution, you will be the driving force behind our fire protection solutions. Your ability to accurately estimate project costs will be crucial in securing new business and ensuring successful project delivery.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Estimation and Bidding: Prepare detailed estimates and bid proposals, ensuring they accurately reflect the scope and complexity of fire protection projects.

  • Contract Management: Maintain contract documents throughout the life of the project, ensuring all changes from bulletins, addenda, etc., are properly addressed and processed.

  • Change Order Management: Communicate with site foremen to track and process change orders promptly, including regular follow-up with General Contractors (GC) and Construction Managers (CM) for updates.

  • Coordination and Communication: Work closely with Designers to submit RFIs as needed and maintain continual communication with the GC/CM, providing regular status updates.

  • Safety and Compliance: Perform weekly safety walkthroughs and site safety audits, documenting completion. Ensure weekly toolbox talks are completed and submitted to the Safety Manager.

  • Project Meetings: Attend and participate in weekly jobsite meetings, communicating outcomes with the job designer and project team.

  • Billing and Documentation: Collect timesheets from field personnel, perform monthly billing updates, and coordinate the submission of required job closeout documentation.

  • Permits and Approvals: Submit necessary documentation and applications for construction permits as required, and maintain communication and coordination with fire marshals, including drawings and testing.

  • Resource Management: Oversee weekly project manpower scheduling and manage material/equipment ordering and oversight for jobs, in coordination with designers and shop coordinators.

  • WIP/CTC Updates: Assist in the preparation of monthly Work-In-Progress (WIP) and Cost-To-Complete (CTC) updates for assigned jobs.

  • Turnover Meetings: Attend turnover meetings with sales and design personnel for new jobs to ensure a smooth transition from planning to execution.

  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the successful completion of projects.

    Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in fire protection estimating and project management or a similar field in construction.

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or greater is a plus.

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of fire protection systems and applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA). Proficiency in estimating software, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Analytical Skills: Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail in the estimation process. Ability to perform cost-benefit analysis, develop budgets, and manage project financials.

  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Organizational Skills: Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.

  • Licenses/Certifications: A valid driver’s license is required.
