Intertek Finance Manager Global FP&A in Plymouth, Michigan

Intertek is looking for a Finance Manager Global FP&A to join our Transportation Technology team in Plymouth, MI.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely and collaboratively with the business operations manager, other FP&A Managers and the country finance function to provide financial and commercial support to your business line.

HERE‘S WHAT YOU’LL DO ON THE JOB:

• Operating cost control (direct costs & overheads) including weekly/monthly/annual comparison to budget or latest forecast

• Forecasting accuracy (in quarterly forecasts, and also in weekly cycle for month outlook)

• Volume forecasts and actuals analysis (volume/price/mix analysis)

• Pre-approval of any proposed cost or capex overspends

• Drive finance function efficiencies to allow adequate resourcing to be spent on business partnering activities

• Site level Analysis and pushing down budgets, forecasts and targets to site level Monitoring of actuals to forecasts o Detailed monthly reviews with sites where forecast accuracy and cost management is weak

• Capital allocation and rigorous business cases

• Budgeted spend prioritized to deliver best returns

• Country portfolio reviews and/or turnaround plans defined ahead of capex spend

• Post investment appraisal of significant items against CAR

• Business partnering, leadership & performance management

• Business partner to the Regional Director/Business Line Leaders, providing support and challenge, and advising on financial and analysis matters. Supporting the development of strategy, business development activities and investments. Particular emphasis on Commercial Finance support and forward-looking insight

• Performance analysis: Monitor actual results, provide managerial critiques and recommend any corrective actions

• Assist the Regional Directors/BL Leaders in commenting on performance on the monthly performance management calls and any other commentaries, presentations or analysis reports as required

• Effective collaboration with Country, Regional and Group Finance o Lead by example, comply with all legal, professional and company requirements

• Provide leadership to direct reports and through them the business line to maintain engagement in Intertek’s vision and strategy, build a capable workforce and provide a work environment in which people can perform.

• Planning, Budgeting, Forecasting, Financial Analysis

• Oversee the preparation of annual Budgets, Forecasts and projections for your business lines Strategic planning: improve pipeline and forecasting accuracy, explore market opportunities, profitability of service offerings and identify opportunities for growth.

• Bid Support and Contract Management

• Work closely and offer guidance and control over major bids and non-standard contracts

• Contribute to client tenders and quotations and assist in negotiations. Support the Regional Directors/Business Line Leaders to develop pricing strategies and perform profitability analysis of services to ensure optimum decisions are made

• Ongoing review of regional/business line contract and customer profitability

• Asset Management and Investment appraisals o Reporting and driving improvement actions on the balance sheet, specifically the Accounts Receivable and Work in Progress

• Review and evaluate all investment proposals ensuring ROI is in line with company goals

• Acquisitions: Assist the Regional Directors/Business Line Leaders in identifying potential acquisitions, assessing suitability and alignment with the Technical Services business line strategy

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Finance/Accounting/Commerce, etc.

• 7+ years of experience in finance roles within organizations

• Working knowledge of International Accounting Standards

• Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, CPA, or similar accounting body

• Good verbal communication skills

• Relevant computer skills, notably Microsoft Office and particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint

• Ability to analyze trends and present results to senior management

• Ability to work in a team environment

• Ability to work independently while managing a fluctuating workload

• Ability to problem solve in non-routine situations.

• Ability to work flexible hours inclusive of out of office hours and weekend work.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Transportation Technology industry experience

• Knowledge of Oracle Peoplesoft accounting software

• Knowledge of Cognos consolidation software

• Experience working within global organizations
