JOB DESCRIPTION:

Interact with the global engineering community and prepare testing plans for incoming laboratory work. Prepare metallurgical samples, perform materials testing using laboratory equipment and create formal lab reports to present results and conclusions. Provide expertise in engineering, research, and failure analysis of materials to their individual client base and their engineering associates. Engage in global discussions regarding their test reports and give recommendations based on their expertise. Become proficient in the selection and use of laboratory test equipment in a high volume automotive metallurgical test lab with test equipment that includes Rockwell and Vickers hardness, dynamic tensile strength testing, metallographic sample preparation, optical emission spectroscopy (chemistry) and fractography with sem. Facilitate planning and purchase of SEM apparatus. Develop methods and become resident expert in fractography and eds. Record data, interpret results and prepare formal laboratory reports that meet all accreditation requirements of this laboratory. Use automated equipment and hand tools to prepare samples. follow all OSHA and safety procedures outlined by the department. Interact with other service departments within Adient to additionally prepare samples for testing. Prepare testing plan for larger scale, specialized, metallurgical issues. Collect and organize samples, perform testing, evaluate data, prepare and present a formal written report and participate in follow-up discussions, sometimes on a global scale. Develop and implement training for materials lab methods. Participate in observational audits and have the ability to recommend changes and engage in risk management discussion to develop opportunities for improvement. Responsible for lab operation through management of lab supplies, ordering, and maintaining. Telecommuting permitted.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a Bachelors degree, or foreign equivalent, in Engineering or related materials science field. Additionally, the applicant must have coursework or employment experience with: (1) Corrosion Engineering; (2) Structure and Properties of Polycrystalline Materials; (3) Advanced Surface Engineering; (4) Materials Characterization Techniques; and (5) Deformation Failure of Engineering Materials.

 

RATE OF PAY: $ 72,800.00 - $91,850.64 per year
