The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the SH division.

Structural Heart Business Mission: Why We Exist

Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.

As the Staff Process Development Metrology Engineer, you'll have the chance to be a key member of the Abbott Structural Heart Product Development Team.

This position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining measurement equipment across the Structural Heart franchise and for products under development. Parts include metal frames, tissue, and catheters. This role involves working closely with the Abbott’s medical device cross-functional team.

What You’ll Work On

Measurement Systems Development

  • Responsible for all aspects of measurement. This includes finding measurement equipment, developing justification for purchasing, installation, creating measurement methods, software validation, installation qualification, and authoring test methods.

Industry Trends

  • Stay current with measurement technology and keep a pulse on how the technology can transfer to Abbott’s development and manufacturing. In addition, this role will require understanding of internal measurement SOPs, statistical analysis methods, and industry measurement standards.

Statistical Analysis

  • Be the subject matter expert in measurement method statistical analysis techniques. This includes gage studies, bias studies, stability evaluation, and calibration standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Work across Abbott’s manufacturing processing and improve measurement systems where necessary. Perform qualification testing and assist in regulatory submissions.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical support and training to engineering and manufacturing teams on metrology related issues. Troubleshoot and resolve measurement related problems.

Calibration and Maintenance

  • Perform calibration and maintenance of equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Problem Solving

  • Assist in problem solving efforts by utilizing different techniques to measure parts.

Other Responsibilities

  • May have team leadership or direct reports.

  • May lead a project team, determining goals and objectives for the project.

  • Mentors team members.

  • Serves as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations.

  • Act as a spokesperson with suppliers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in engineering with metrology focus.

  • Familiarity of writing software for measurement.

  • Working knowledge of calibration techniques.

  • Statistical analysis methods and proficiency with Minitab or JMP.

  • This position will require travel between Abbott sites in MN. Occasional travel internationally and domestically required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma certified.

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
