About Mertz Manufacturing

Mertz Manufacturing, Inc., founded in 1927 in Ponca City, OK, designs and builds a wide range of custom steel fabricated products. The majority of our products are custom designed trailers to serve as the mobile platform for our customers specialized equipment, typically used in the Oil & Gas industry. We also build stationary structures to house or transport equipment. Very often, our products involve complicated electronics and hydraulics to achieve the results our customers require.

All of our products are custom designed and built to our customers exacting specifications for the quantities and delivery times the customer requires. Frequently, customers approach Mertz with an idea for a product to fill a unique business need with little more than a sketch to work from. Mertz has consistently been able to work with our customers to find unique and affordable solutions to their complex problems. Mertz ability to take a customer idea from inception through design, prototyping, and final production with the highest commitment to quality and safety have earned our customers trust.

Just under half of our workforce consists of welders followed by almost equal numbers of painters, machinists, assembly mechanics and steel cutting and forming workers. We also have a design team and other support functions that provide essential services such as purchasing, quality control, inventory and IT.

Assembly Mechanic Position:Mertz is looking for Assembly Mechanics to join our team. Non-job experience or vocational-technical training such as auto mechanics, farm work, etc. that demonstrate aptitude can substitute for job experience. We will consider and train entry-level applicants for this position that demonstrate the necessary aptitude.

The Assembly Mechanic will utilize a combination of hand tools, electric and pneumatic power tools, cranes and forklifts while following written, verbal, and visual instructions, blueprints and assembly drawings to help create a finished product.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D drawing interpretation.
  • Knowledge of basic hand tool utilization.
  • Knowledge of Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to industrial shop standards.
  • Ability to read and independently work from written or verbal instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The job duties require an employee to bend and reach for extended
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working on the manufacturing floor including, but not limited to, eye, ear, and foot protection.
  • The job duties require the employee to walk or stand for long periods of time.
  • Walk up and down flights of stairs, climb on equipment and use appropriate tie-off as needed.
  • The job duties require an employee to lift/move 50 lbs.
  • Walk, reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally.

DutiesandResponsibilities

Studies applicable drawings and prints of work to be performed and follows instructions.

Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their related functions and components is desirable.

Must be able to utilize basic measuring tools and instruments.

Must be able to perform basic shop mathematical calculations.

Must be able to determine the proper tools required to perform given task.

Must be able to understand and follow directions from a lead person or supervisor.

Must completely follow shop related safety protocol, policies, and procedures.
