JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Lifeguard

Reports to:

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of people that are swimming in a pool or water park and providing life-saving rescues when necessary. Their duties include supervising swimmers, enforcing safety rules, and saving people in emergency situations.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees activities at an aquatic facility.
  • Explains and enforces rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety of patrons.
  • Monitors designated areas to recognize signs of danger.
  • Warns swimmers regarding unsafe situations.
  • Maintains order in swimming areas.
  • Responds to emergencies and rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Performs first aid procedures.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of all areas.
  • Maintains records and reports.

Education and Experience:

  • 16 years or age or older.
  • Completion of lifeguard training
  • 1+ months related experience
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • AED certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to swim in several water conditions and temperatures.
  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of water quality and how to test water conditions.
  • Knowledge of general safety guidelines, in and out of the water
  • Ability to perform life-saving procedures, like CPR, injury treatment, and water rescue.
  • Ability to enforce the rules of the swimming areas.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs/ladders, work in small spaces, walk and reach overhead.
  • Able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels outdoors.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
