Reports to: Building Principal, Media Center Specialist

Supervises: Students when a Classroom Teacher is not in the Library

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED\ Thorough Knowledge of Media Center Procedures and Equipment\ \ Job Goal: Assist the media center specialist in the day-to-day operation of the media center or perform duties under the direct supervision of a Library Media Specialist.

Employment Terms: 9 Month Contract, 6.75 Hours per Day, Exclusive of a Lunch

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the\ neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead,\ above shoulder and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands\ to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to\ students; lift/move up to 15 pounds

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 25 pounds,\ ability to administer CPR

Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information

\ Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performed Under the Direction of a Library Media Specialist:

\ 1. Ensures efficient management of the circulation desk, electronic card catalog, and computer lab.\ 2. Instructs students on the proper use of print and electronic library and computer lab resources, including developing students research, reference and critical thinking skills.\ 3. Conducts an annual inventory, including discarding dated materials.\ 4. Tracks overdue media center materials and notify students of outstanding items.\ 5. Keeps media center in neat order throughout the day.\ 6. Answers the telephone and takes messages.\ 7. Delivers Audio/visual equipment; maintains inventory.\ 8. Runs computer and audio/visual equipment as necessary.\ 9. Assists in suggesting and locating instructional materials for teachers.\ 10. Assists in maintaining files and records in library.\ 11. Regularly participates in appropriate professional development opportunities.\ 12. Utilizes professional behavior in all school related interactions.\ 13. Complies with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.\ 14. Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
