Honor Community Health Clinical Receptionist in Pontiac, Michigan

Honor Community Health is a 501c3 Federally Qualified Health Center co-located within 20 locations. Our mission is to provide for the health and wellness needs of the underserved of Oakland County through the provision of comprehensive, integrated primary, behavioral health, and dental care. Position Description

The full-time, non-exempt Clinical Receptionist reports to the Practice Manager or Lead Medical Assistant. The Clinical Receptionist plays a crucial role in the high-performing healthcare team at Honor Community Health, serving as the primary point of contact for patients during their visits. Works collaboratively to create and maintain a culture of excellence and dedication to providing compassionate and high-quality health care to all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Excellent Customer Service

  • Warmly welcomes patients and visitors using eye contact and a smile.

  • Answers incoming calls and assists callers with friendly and professional demeanors.

  • Employs excellent customer service skills during all interactions with patients and visitors.

  • Effectively communicates Honor Community Health’s services and policies to patients and visitors.

  • Reassures patients by anticipating their needs and concerns, answering questions and providing wait time updates., and maintaining the cleanliness of the reception area.

Patient-Centered Care 

  • Utilizes electronic patient management and medical record system efficiently and accurately.

  • Updates and verifies patient demographic and financial accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information at each visit.

  • Assists patients with the completion of the necessary paperwork, using translators when necessary.

  • Communicates accurate insurance and sliding fee scale process to all patients as needed. 

  • Protects patients’ rights and maintains confidentiality of personal and financial information according to Honor Community Health Policy.

  • Verifies insurance and Primary Care Provider and facilitates PCP reassignment, as necessary.

Office and Clinic Operations

  • The Clinical Receptionist is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized waiting area and monitors the amount of time patients spend waiting to ensure timely visit completion.

  • Responsible for all incoming documents including but not limited to –

  • FAX, email, scans, mail, and hand-delivered documents

  • Scans all documents into the patient charts immediately, when received.

  • Always maintains an adequate supply of forms and patient information materials.

  • Handles cash transactions and ensures that the cash drawer reconciles at the end of the day.

  • Collaborates with the team and remains flexible to meet the changing needs of patients and office workflow.

  • May be asked to serve on committees, work groups or other bodies as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.  During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties similar to but not limited to those in the job description. During clinic operation shortages and without advanced notice, the employee may be relocated to a different HCH location.

What are we looking for?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • 6 + months in a customer service or clinical receptionist position is required. 

  • Strong computer skills and experience using Electronic Medical Records (NextGen preferred) and knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet.
