Position Summary

The Manager Mail Order and Retail Pharmacy is responsible for the organization, supervision, and effectiveness of the Martin’s Point’s Mail Order and on-site Clinic Center Pharmacies and the delivery of pharmacy services to support Martin’s Point Health Care Centers and Health Plans.

Job Description

Key Outcomes:

  • Oversees the filling of prescriptions in an accurate and professional manner according to federal and state rules/regulations.

  • Partners with the Pharmacist-in-Charge to schedule all pharmacy personnel to ensure adequate coverage to meet patient and provider needs.

  • Works collaboratively with the Director, Pharmacy and Manager, Pharmacy Operations in the medical management of and provision of clinical services associated with Martin’s Point’s Pharmacy programs (e.g. management of medical expense, education of selected providers, etc.)

  • Oversees efficient process design, development of quantitative and qualitative measures of process performance, on-going improvement of the process, and reporting that shows the operational performance of the pharmacy. – Pharmacist-in-Charge & Supervisor, Pharmacies & Pharmacy Technicians responsible

  • Researches, recommends and implements automation to enhance the quality and timeliness of the filling of prescriptions.

  • Ensures the highest level of customer service is delivered and that customer concerns are addressed promptly and appropriately. Develops, implements, and routinely updates departmental operating policies and procedures for the pharmacy. Ensures the pharmacy staff is appropriately trained in updated policies and procedures.

  • Manages pharmacy computer system operations and development, with oversight of Director, Pharmacy. Initiates and implements new third party on-line programs. Serves as contact to software vendor, third party on-line providers, and internal department representatives. Assists to develop and then manages the MPHC drug utilization review program, to include retrospective, concurrent and prospective DUR. Identifies potential problems in such areas as formulary compliance, generic substitution, prescribing patterns, etc. Submits appropriate monthly reports.

  • Along with other members of the pharmacy staff, provides education to patients of the pharmacy and to MPHC members regarding product usage, contraindications, and other matters. Also submits pharmacy-related information to Marketing on a periodic basis for inclusion in the quarterly member newsletter.

  • Ensures Pharmacies comply with all Federal, State, and local laws, statutes, regulations and rules.

  • Appropriately manages the pharmacy inventory system to provide any necessary split between military and non-military patients, and to assure the most cost-effective inventory and inventory system possible, taking into account both space constraints and volume discounts which may be possible from vendors. Meets with pharmaceutical representatives on a regular basis.

  • On an annual basis, prepares both operating and capital budgets for the pharmacy and submits for approval, along with detailed descriptions and justifications for all items. On a monthly basis, monitors compliance with the pharmacy budgets and submits variance reports. Responsible for managing the pharmacy within the constraints of the established pharmacy budget each year.

  • Assists the Clinical Pharmacists in the management of the Pharmacy Externship Interns within the pharmacy.

  • Presents and objectively advocates pharmacy and patient care needs to administration.

  • Fills and dispenses prescriptions as necessary as staffing requires.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. required

  • PBM/HMO/managed care experience preferred

  • 5 years Pharmacy operations experience along with leadershiip experience required

Required License(s) and/or Certification(s):

  • Valid, State of Maine Pharmacist License (unrestricted)
