Hoffman Construction Company Construction Scheduler Intern OR in Portland, Oregon

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY: The Construction Scheduler Intern will work within the Scheduling Department and will report to the Scheduling Manager. They may assist the Project Managers and Project Superintendents to input schedule status updates, incorporate logic changes and delays, and analyze project schedule progress, and other duties as assigned. This position will be fully in-office and will include the use of multiple software programs. This position is on site and 40 hours a week for a minimum of 10 weeks over Summer 2025.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collect and input schedule status update information into the record project schedule.

  • Attend in-person and/or virtual project schedule progress meetings as needed.

  • Identify changes to the project schedule.

  • Notify teams of impacts to critical path activities and/or schedule logic.

  • Ensure technical schedule integrity is maintained.

  • Produce and distribute weekly and monthly schedules, forecasts, and reports.

  • Manage Outlook distribution lists and standard form emails for schedule distribution.

  • Maintain project schedule archives and documentation.

    Qualifications:

    Position Related Skills

  • Experience with project management software such as Primavera Project Planner (P6), Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project.

  • Experience in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams), and have a general understanding of working within a computer network.

  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.

  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method. Familiar with CSI specification system for construction.

  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.

  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude through high-pressure situations.

  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.

  • Patience and professionalism are essential.

  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.

    Professional Experience and Education

  • Some scheduling experience with Primavera software (P6) is preferred.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent degree/certification and/or equivalent related work experience in data management required.

  • Educational background in materials and methods of construction.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: workday is combination of standing, walking and sitting.

  • Must be able to climb stairs: 5% of day. 

  • Hands/Arms: constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use. 

  • Sight: visual acuity in near, mid, and far range vision. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination. 

  • Hearing: sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone.

  • Speech: sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone.

  • Lift/Carry: Up to 20lbs. Computer/drawings - minimal.

  • Bending/Twisting: minimal. 

  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: minimal. 

  • Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required. 

  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments. 

  • Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results. 

  • Must be able to plan and organize work. 

    Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers.
