No two days are the same! Crofton is seeking a Deckhand to join our team.

The ideal Deckhand is responsible for cleaning and maintaining machinery, repair various parts of the vessel, and keep watch during parts of the night. Deckhands need to be flexible and capable of carrying out a variety of cleaning and maintenance-related tasks. Their most common responsibility is to help keep the ship clean and capable of navigating the seas or lakes that it operates on.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Loading and unloading materials
  • Maintaining a Clean and safe jobsite
  • Grease and clean machinery
  • Perform simple maintenance tasks.
  • Load and unload cargo while in port
  • Keep watch during some nights
  • Perform other tasks as instructed by the Supervisor
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Assist other members of the crew as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Fitness levels sufficient to remain standing for most of your shift.
  • Existing knowledge of the maritime industry
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to work in tough climates.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as a part of a team.

Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2-3 years prior experience
  • Experience with heavy machinery
  • Experience with power tools

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Able to traverse all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may require walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
