Premier Medical Group of the Hudson Valley Per diem Ultrasound Technologist in Poughkeepsie, New York

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging. In this role, the Ultrasound Technologist will be responsible for patient care, appropriate documentation, quality control, quality improvement and maintaining a safe environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors

  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing diagnostic imaging including explaining the procedure to the patient and positioning patient to provide the best view.

  • Reviews patient’s medical history, previous available imaging and physician’s instructions. Ensures that there is an electronic order for the ultrasound test to be done.

  • Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents any deviations. Follows the protocol for imaging and measurements required for each study.

  • Applies independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic sonography procedures.

  • Applies independent judgment during sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.

  • As necessary, acquires additional ultrasound imaging to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.

  • Identifies and documents any limitations to the sonography examination.

  • Reviews examination images, synthesizes examination results, and prepares the preliminary findings.

  • Consults other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.

  • Understands and practices proper use of all equipment

  • Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.

  • Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within the shift, including transmission of completed exams to internal PACS system.

  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures

  • Assess patient’s understanding of process and informed consent of invasive procedures

  • Performs all equipment quality control checks

  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient

  • Maintains patient care areas with appropriate supplies

  • Travels to all facility locations as required

  • Performs additional duties as assigned

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma and 2 to 5 years of relevant experience

  • Graduate of a school accredited by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent preferred

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy in order to receive and interpret physician requests for routine, standardized ultrasonography procedures
