General Atomics and Affiliated Companies Senior Project Engineer in Poway, California

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer within the GA-ASI Agile Mission Systems (AMS) group in Poway, CA. AMS is defining the mission systems of current and emerging vehicles for multiple customers. This includes specialty sensors in multiple physics regimes (e.g., RF, EO, IR, etc.) in multiple domains. These sensors include complex integrations such as conformally-mounted, structurally-embedded, or those that exist behind a radome or other surface. Signal processing, software, autonomy, and dissemination of information transduced by these sensors will enable the mission capabilities that provide dominance over adversaries.

The candidate Mission Systems SME will be a Project Engineer and will assist both Mission Systems and Survivability IPT Leads to execute goals, document artifacts, and complete deliverables to internal and external customers using GA-ASI resources. The successful candidate will work hand-in-hand with Program Management, other program leadership (e.g., Integrated product teams, or IPTs), and a US Government customer to generate an integrated master schedule, staff the program, manage the cost, subcontract work, if necessary, and perform technically. Technical performance includes design, analysis, model-based systems engineering, supplier management, defining statements of work (SoWs), writing procurement specifications, RF test (both onsite, offsite, ground, and flight test), technical maturation, and risk management/risk reduction.

This candidate will functionally report to the Project Engineering Director of Radar and technically report to a Mission Systems IPT lead. We are seeking individuals who have niche technical experience in at least one area and are generally competent in many. In this manner, the engineer will interface with those having other niche experience, reduce risk, and close on a balanced design for all stakeholders. GA-ASI is hiring more than one project engineer for this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledge, management of, and sub-contractual relationships with no less than 8 industry partners (Tier I, Tier II, or Tier III suppliers).

  • Proven customer interaction including organizing and presenting at major design reviews or industry conference.

  • Conceptualizes and articulates innovative resolutions to highly technical and complex engineering problems.

  • Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between organizations.

  • Provides leadership, direction and guidance for research into the solution of engineering problems.

  • Advises or directs the planning for the implementation of engineering solutions, including strategic objectives and timetables.

  • Participates or directs the allocation of technical resources and professional staff to achieve objectives.

  • Prepares status/progress reports and ensure compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.
