The Global Patient Outreach (GPO) organization serves as a patient focus center of excellence, working to elevate the voice of the patient across the enterprise, to support deeper connection and understanding of the patient experience and to ensure our medicines reach patients faster.

Universal Patient Language is a capability within GPO that is utilized enterprise wide to ensure that we are communicating complex topics to our patients in a way that is understandable and accessible. The Associate Director role is responsible for our Universal Patient Language Integration and Feedback team (UPLIFT) program. UPLIFT is an innovative program designed to scale and embed UPL reviews across the organization. Secondary responsibilities include acting as a steward of the Universal Patient Language (UPL) capability within BMS, working across the enterprise to help BMS teams apply UPL effectively and refining the UPL capability based on lessons learned or other projects as defined by the Director, UPL Capability Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations and future strategy development of the UPLIFT Program ensuring we drive health literacy through identifying opportunities to embed UPL and facilitation of the application of UPL in our patient communications.

  • Providing feedback and guidance on work-in-progress materials to business champions and/or to agencies from a UPL perspective.

  • Quality oversight to ensure consistency across reviews and best practice sharing within the team and organization through a community of practice.

  • Tracks progress against strategic objectives, monitors metrics, analyzes trends and proactively identifies operational risks/issues and solutions.

  • Acts as a key business partner to brand teams, therapeutic areas, medical, corporate affairs, value and access, call centers, and any and all functions that are responsible for any patient facing communications.

  • Develops and implements training to internal and external teams, navigating MLR processes in creation of resources and partnering with IT to make materials available on appropriate internal/external sites.

  • Contributes to innovative project development and application of the UPL Artificial intelligence tool.

  • Supports strategy on expansion and potential development of UPL in key markets outside the U.S.

  • Socializes UPL internally and externally to encourage use and partnership. Synthesizes learnings from application projects to evolve the existing UPL tools and add new ones.

  • Although this role does not have direct reports, it is important the candidate can lead without authority, coach, train, and motivate UPLIFT team members who are on Tour of Duties.

  • Fosters a culture of inclusion, ethics and integrity and contribute to a work environment that relies on the diversity of people, perspectives, and experience.

Key Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)

  • Advance Degree (MBA, MS, Pharm.D) a plus

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience within the pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry, commercial, public health and/or advocacy experience is a plus

  • Soft skills include empathy, passion for patients, and having the ability to seat themselves as a patient through communication reviews

  • Proven ability to partner across large matrix teams, including global stakeholders

  • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as exceptional time and project management skills are required

  • Strong innovation, decision making and problem solving skills

  • The successful candidate will have a d emonstrated track record of managing multiple, conflicting priorities in a rapidly evolving, fast paced, complex environment with successful outcomes

  • Able to lead and inspire teams with an eye for training others

  • Able to navigate appropriate systems to support MLR reviews
