Brown University Assistant Coach, Women's Crew in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Women’s Crew position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

The Assistant Coach will assist all aspects of the women’s rowing program, including coaching, administration, safety and development, recruiting and planning. In conjunction with the coaching staff, the Assistant Coach is also responsible for planning team and recruiting travel, recruiting prospective student-athletes, completing compliance responsibilities, and planning team events.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).

Background Check – Criminal, Education, MVR

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree, required.

• 1-3 years coaching experience with a competitive club, high school or collegiate program; Prior collegiate coaching experience preferred (and/or a combination of coaching and competitive rowing experience).

• Competitive collegiate and/or international rowing experience, preferred.

Job Competencies

• Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League Rules.

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skills, necessary

• Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students

• Excellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.

• Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

• Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, internet and email capabilities.

• Social media experience, helpful.

• Prior experience with XOS or other video editing software, helpful.

• Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game and ability to coach and motivate.

• The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
