Meeting Street Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and WIC Clerk - Bilingual English/Spanish in Providence, Rhode Island

Meeting Street is currently looking for a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and WIC Clerk working 40 hours weekly.

Duties:

  • Provide consultation to expecting mothers, mothers, and their children under age 5 with the goal of promoting breastfeeding.
  • Share your own experiences in breastfeeding and as a WIC participant to build trusting relationships with parents, children, and extended families.
  • Provide basic breastfeeding information and support new mothers in overcoming common barriers when breastfeeding, partnering with the WIC Nutritionist when needed to ensure that baby is fed and healthy.
  • Identify needs beyond the scope of the WIC program and make referrals to other Rhode Island-based resources as needed.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, schedule appointments for clients, and manage check-in of clients for in-person appointments.
  • Conduct intake and eligibility certification of new WIC participants.
  • Perform physical assessment of clients through measuring height, weight, and hemoglobin.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team in providing clinical care and assessment of clients.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma Required
  • Experience providing support to high need populations.
