About the Opportunity:

The Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship (https://entrepreneurship.brown.edu/) is the home for Entrepreneurship at Brown and serves as a resource for the entire University. The Center does this through three primary areas of focus, including teaching and instruction, co-curricular programming, and venture support programs.

Responsibilities:

The Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship seeks a Communications Coordinator to lead the creation of all internal and external communications content and provides administrative support to the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship operations, programs and events. The position reports directly to the Assistant Director of the Center. This vital role executes the written and visual communications for the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship by developing high-quality content focusing specifically on its website, newsletter, and social media platforms. Student workers support the position.

This position supports the growing Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship programs and events with a focus on raising the profile and impact of the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship and its community members. The main duties may include but are not limited to managing website content and developing regular written and visual communications and marketing materials to support Nelson Center programs and events as a tool for engagement with the Center’s students, alumni, and local and global audiences.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public affairs, or a related field required.

  • 1-3 years of related professional experience in marketing, communications, development, and outreach planning, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Experience with website and social media maintenance, writing, and posting.

  • Preferred background: writing and basic graphic design skills.

  • Demonstrated strong written communication and presentation skills with special attention to detail/accuracy and audience.

  • Knowledge and command of evolving social media platforms.

  • Ability to sustain a high level of productivity and work independently while being part of a collaborative team.

  • Sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a strong command of AP editorial style.

  • Flexibility in adjusting to changing demands.

  • Proficiency in Google Drive, MS Office, Google MailChimp, Figma, WordPress, and Drupal.

  • Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.

Some night and weekend work is required to cover events, including staffing Commencement annually which is typically Memorial Day weekend
