Position Information

Position Title Learning Designer

Overview

Design and develop effective learning experiences that enhance student engagement and success. Take the lead in working with faculty designing for online courses and programs.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with faculty to review existing course content, as well as the development assignment and assessment for quality, consistency, and alignment with learning objectives. Collaborate with Instructional Technologists when needed. Collaborate on administration and faculty development of the college’s online teaching certification program. Provide direct support for faculty and programs assigned to teach online or hybrid courses, synchronous or asynchronous.

  • Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in educational technology and instructional design. Leverage AI and prompt engineering techniques to enhance personalized learning experiences. Evaluate course assessments and exercises for AI integration based on instructor preferences and needs.

  • Create, design, and develop interactive course materials for the Learning Management System ( LMS ) and relevant third-party tools. Stay current on road maps of vendor partners and identify potential learning design incorporations and faculty partners. Create templates in the LMS for existing programs and partnerships, showcasing the needs of students and potential LTI opportunities. Provide leadership and best practices with the college’s Canvas Credentials platform for faculty development.

  • Design and run workshops regarding course design and quality of course design. Promote resources available to faculty, such as OneHE, LinkedIn Learning, Online Learning Consortium platforms, and additional professional development opportunities for faculty. Review instructor data vis LMS administration and Tier 1 support to collaborate on faculty development training needs.

  • Serve as a Teaching & Learning Technologies representative on multiple committees and collaborate closely with the Center for Teaching Excellence to offer faculty resources for course design and review.

    Marginal Duties:

  • Perform all other duties as may be required.

    Education and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in learning design, instructional design or similar field from an accredited institution required.

  • Three to five years’ experience in learning design or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of multimodal course design – face-to-face, hybrid, online, but also utilizing mobile technology in classroom activities.

  • Familiarity with various tools such as LTI 1.3, Canvas Mastery Paths, Canvas Credentials (Badgr), Turnltln, HSP , TopHat, Gradescope, Microsoft 365, and more.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Comfort in various technologies and learning new technologies quickly.

  • Strong presentation skills both in-person and online, and efficient creation of digital learning resources.

  • Strong knowledge of assignment design principles and course design best practices.

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, tools, and practices.

  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning

  • Advanced knowledge of learning curriculum design at the course and mastery path level.

  • Some evening and weekend work required.

    Salary Grade CS04 (Min. $69,200/Mid. $90,000/Max. $110,800)

Employees are normally hired between the minimum and the midpoint of a position’s grade range to which a position has been assigned, depending on experience and qualifications.
