The Role

The Senior SOX Auditor will perform testing of key business process and entity level controls for management’s assessment of SOX 404. This role will be responsible for meeting with control owners to gain an understanding of and request evidence for control operation. The Senior SOX Auditor will gather and evaluate populations for completeness and will create workpapers to document testing performed and conclusions reached. This role will require organized and concise preparation of workpapers in accordance with team methodologies, providing assurance the work performed supports the conclusions reached. This role will be responsible for coordinating and communicating with the external audit team, the Internal Audit SOX team, and business leadership. The role will also participate in other risk-based audit and advisory projects.

Internal Audit’s mission at Lumen is to support the Audit Committee and management through objective risk-based assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve the operations of Lumen. Our Internal Audit leader brings a fresh perspective and is expanding our team’s skillsets. As part of the team, you will have the unique opportunity to understand different business process areas across a transformational technology company. You will engage with varying layers of leadership to evaluate day-to-day operations and financials and translate risks to big picture issues that directly impact the business and Lumen’s customers. You will learn to use big data and develop analytics to support audit findings and provide management meaningful information. You will directly be involved in the SOX 404 program to evaluate and test controls to help ensure Lumen can effectively meet its financial objectives.

This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Test compliance of established internal control procedures and document findings and conclusions in test workpapers.

  • Communicate with SOX Compliance management regarding testing status, testing issues, and deadlines. Follow up with auditees to ensure that agreed-upon action plans have been implemented.

  • Communicate with business process owners and assist in the documentation of risks, controls, processes, and deficiencies.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the business areas, including understanding changes to business processes and procedures and potential impacts to the controls being tested.

  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improving internal controls over financial reporting. Work with process owners to assist in the design and implementation of new controls and best practices, as appropriate.

  • Assist external auditors as required and as directed by the SOX managers.

  • Participate in risk-based audit and advisory projects, executing testing, documenting test work performed and supporting conclusions within workpapers.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other business discipline.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in internal audit, risk consulting, or external audit and SOX 404 compliance.

  • Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with control owners and other business partners in a remote work environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment, with an exceptional eye for detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, problem solve, and prioritize, as well as demonstrate excellent communication skills in order to successfully meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrate an aptitude for critical thinking in complex situations.

  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated experience with audit software such as HighBond.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Large accounting firm or industry experience with large public company.

  • CIA, CISA and/or CPA certification.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$66,375 - $88,500 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.

$69,694 - $92,925 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.

$73,013 - $97,350 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
