WSP USA Senior Project Manager in Providence, Rhode Island

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Project Manager for our Boston, MA office. The following locations will also be considered: Glastonbury, CT; and Providence RI. Be involved in projects with our Transportation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The role involves leading major transportation projects and programs under a range of project delivery methods. The role will be helping pursue, lead and deliver major transportation projects throughout New England. The successful candidate will possess extensive project management experience, with a demonstrated track record of successful project delivery, and versatility to oversee and manage supporting staff while providing responsive and proactive service to our clients.

Provide leadership to ensure highway, bridge, transit and rail engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing strategic and consistent direction to address current and future challenges in a large-scale and multi-faceted business organization.

Your Impact

  • Manage and oversee the work of large multi-discipline design and\or program management teams.

  • Interface routinely with traditional Owner clients, design-build contractors or other alternative delivery clients, and other project stakeholders for coordinated project delivery.

  • Lead the project teams to deliver on budget, on schedule, while fully complying with quality protocols and objectives. Accountable for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects.

  • Assist in business development activities to identify, track and position the firm for major upcoming opportunities. Assist with proposal preparation, interviews and maintain regular client contact.

  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.

  • Drive compliance and accountability-at-all-levels with applicable Federal, State, and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.

  • Provides performance guidance and proactive leadership to assigned managers and staff.

  • Remain current in latest discipline-specific techniques and practices.

  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide “trusted advisor” service and future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management.

  • Minimum 12+ years of project management/construction engineering experience.

  • Experience managing large, multi-discipline design and\or program management teams.

  • Experience with bridge, highway and\or transit & rail projects.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business.

  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.

  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer License in the State of Massachusetts (multi-state preferred).

  • Design Build experience.
