Position Information

Position Title Simulation Technology Specialist

Overview

Responsible for simulation equipment management, simulation program support, training and education, and content development. Work closely with nursing faculty, students, and other stakeholders to ensure that simulation-based learning experiences are effective and aligned with educational goals.

This is an exciting and historic opportunity to join PC’s newly established School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Construction is almost complete on the 153,000 sq. ft state-of-the-art Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences that will house the School of Nursing and Health Sciences existing and future undergraduate and graduate programs. This one-of-a-kind facility, which will open in January, features the latest classroom design and technologies and showcases expansive clinical simulation and research facilities, including standardized patient exam rooms, an eight-bed simulation center, and two large skills labs that double as teaching – learning classrooms where active teaching-learning methods are utilized to ensure competency of skill attainment.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in inventory of consumable and equipment supplies and restocking labs and simulation space as needed. Conduct preventive maintenance checks and services of simulation equipment and troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot technical and mechanical aspects of the simulators and exam rooms, including the maintenance, cleaning, and reporting of any required repairs. Attain mastery of simulator operations software and a comprehensive knowledge of hardware characteristics, including coordinating with vendors to resolve serious mechanical failures. Install software updates on computers and maintain manikin components as directed by manufacturer support. Collaborate with Information Technology and simulation system vendors to identify and isolate simulation system and network-related issues. Follows up on ticket resolutions. (35%)

  • Responsible for the proper setup, reset, operation, breakdown, storage, and technical support of simulation systems, computers, room manikins, and supplies. Provide theatrical production (costuming and Moulage) for simulation scenarios as needed. Coordinate activities in the Control Room and operate simulators, task trainers, and the audio-visual equipment. Capture, edit, and replay simulation sessions for debriefing. (35%)

  • Support faculty with open lab or remediation hours as needed. Attending training and continuing education opportunities to remain up to date with simulation capabilities. (15%)

  • Support professional staff with special projects, tours of the building, and in-person special events as needed. (10%)

  • Collect data for ongoing quality improvements, research, or grant requirements. (5%)

    Marginal Duties:

  • Perform all other duties as may be required.

    Education and Experience Required

  • Associate’s degree in technology or a health-related field from an accredited institution required.

  • One to three years’ experience working with simulation technologies (Laerdal and Gaumard) in a nursing or clinical education setting or experience in healthcare practice and will to learn simulation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years’ experience in a related environment preferred. Experience in an academic, clinical, or medical setting preferred.

  • Basic simulation equipment experience.

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology or willingness to be trained.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to effectively and independently coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to adapt to and take full advantage of changing technology in nursing simulation.
