CAMBA Recreation Aide, The Landing Family Shelter in Queens, New York

Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

The Landing Family Shelter is funded by NYC Department of Homeless Services and offers families a supportive, structured therapeutic and safe facility. It provides comprehensive case management services to 169 families who are in a transitional residence program for displaced families.

Position: Recreation Aide

Reports To: Recreational Coordinator

Location: 94-00 Ditmars Blvd Elmhurst NY 11369

What The Recreation Aide Does:

  • Assist with the teaching of physical education, arts and crafts, performing arts, music, sports, ADL & other recreational activities. (i.e., emergency services)

  • Help plan, coordinate and facilitate social and/or peer support events for clients; Organize, and co-facilitate group community activities.

  • Assist with the design and production of aesthetic visuals for public spaces of the shelter which reflect cultural, seasonal and programmatic themes.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, CAMBA staff, community members, donors and with funders; receive/relay phone calls/messages in a timely manner.

  • Track and keep records of community donations and supplies used.

  • Ensure that recreation facilities and equipment are used properly.

  • Monitor clients' progress, create tracker logs and document via progress notes; input client data/ client progress information into automated database. (CARES system)

  • Market the program(s); prepare marketing materials for program(s); conduct onsite outreach to encourage client participation.

  • Compile and provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. and/or equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Must sign NYC DOH/MH attestation stating that candidate has not been subject of a founded child abuse report.

  • Must be/become First Aid/CPR certified.

  • Must be/become certified in overdose prevention.

Compensation: $17.00 hourly

When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
