Job Description

A key member of upper management, the Vice President of Operations/Site Director serves as site leadership responsible for ensuring that the company's everyday activities run smoothly. This professional will set parameters to judge how efficiently and effectively the operations organization is operating. Accordingly, the Vice President of Operations will be responsible for overseeing Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering. This position will report directly to the Vice President and General Manager of the TMS group of businesses.

The VP of Operations/Site Director will be responsible for targeting specific areas in which a company may need to improve operational efficiencies including ownership of achieving revenue and shipment targets, monitoring revenue margins, worker productivity, supply chain and inventory management, as well as driving product lead time reductions as well as implementing new directives for growth. The VP of Operations will also be responsible for setting guidelines for personnel evaluations, recruitment, and advancement.

These duties will include working closely with the VP and General Manager in the formation and execution of the annual business plan, along with responsibilities to provide consistent accurate information for the purposes of daily, weekly and monthly forecasting against this plan. Critical daily tasks will be weighted heavily to making business decisions that will allow for predictability in our monthly and quarterly performance. In specific, this position will lead the coordination of our business flow, from purchase order review to procurement of materials and services, to production planning and execution of orders through shipment of product to customers.

The Vice President of Operations/ Site Director will have regular contact and involvement with our customers to assure alignment of our business and the customer needs and requirements.

  • Responsible for providing management oversight to Supply Chain Management, Material Planning/Control and Manufacturing

  • Responsible for managing day to day business of operations department to drive on-time deliveries, vendor management and predictable production flow.

  • Build and maintain strong working leadership with different functional leaders, particularly with Quality and Engineering, to meet the company’s objectives in manufacturing

  • Responsible for all aspects of material management to meet production targets, mitigate risk, meet unexpected demand, while managing inventory effectively and meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI) targets

  • Responsible for making make/buy decisions for manufacturing processes and for building a long-term strategy for contract manufacturing.

  • Responsible for meeting with key customers to address operational issues.

  • Review and contribute to determining contractual commitments in major contracts.

  • Ensure all required Operations’ processes are in place and effectively followed to ensure on-time delivery of products that meet Quality Management System requirements inclusive of operational systems, processes and infrastructure.

  • Responsible for monitoring Sales Forecasts to ensure production rates are set at optimal level.

  • Responsible for preparing and presenting Operational scorecard and high level presentations and reports to senior leadership and corporate executives.

  • Implement and lead best-in-class business processes including manufacturing systems optimization, contract manufacturers and supply chain development.

  • Identify, lead, and implement process improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, performance and productivity.

  • Provide stewardship and effective management of resources including oversight of resource requirements, departmental budgets, staffing plans, management of vendors, and service.

  • Oversees technical and professional development of the Manufacturing Operations function.

  • Manages direct reports in Material Planning/Control, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, Facilities, Government Property and Security.

Requirements

  • At least a minimum of ten (10) years’ of relevant experience in leading and managing a manufacturing organization, with a strong preference for a background in Defense and/or RF Microwave. High Power Vacuum Electronic Device experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Experience running a $50M+ highly technical manufacturing operation

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or Operations related postgraduate degree preferred.

  • US Citizen and able to attain Security Clearance

  • Understanding of standard manufacturing practices, AS9000 /ISO9001 quality requirements.

  • Successful track record for building, and maintaining, strong internal and external customer relationships.

  • Demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely business decisions.

  • Demonstrate understanding of financial impacts of decisions.

  • Demonstrate champion of diversity and inclusion.

Preferred

  • 4 year Technical Degree or higher

  • Prior experience in improving manufacturing outputs, standardized practices inclusive of implementing lean manufacturing principles and supply chain management
