Position summary:
In this role a Fixed Asset Accountant will analyze, classify, and record property accounting transactions including but not limited to unitization, asset transfers, and reserve adjustments. You will continually develop new and improved processes within the department for reporting and complete project work as assigned.
Pay Range:This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
Level I:$54,100 - $81,250 per hour / Grade 10
Level II:$65,300 - $98,050 / Grade 12
Reporting Relationship:Fixed Asset Accounting Manager
Location:Rapid City, South Dakota
Essential Functions:
• Build property closures, retirements, and transfers. Validate accuracy compared to the FERC guidelines. Provide guidance to correct inconsistencies when needed.
• Provide assistance or recommendations as needed on any improvements or upgrades to the PowerPlan system.
• Instruct the property department customers, operations and other accounting departments, with the FERC accounting rules and regulations.
• Maintain and analyze all Continuing Property Records (CPR) in an orderly and accurate manner. Assist operations, if needed, on how to amend inconsistencies.
• Maintain all CPR in compliance with GAAP and FERC regulations.
• Prepare journal entries as needed.
• Perform assigned duties in a professional manner to facilitate the objectives and goals of the company and to improve the image of the Property Accounting Department.
• Lead individual and team projects to ensure timely, accurate and complete accounting and analysis for all work assigned.
• Respond to requests promptly. Requests may come from external audit and other departments such as financial managers, project managers, regulatory/rate cases and internal audit.
• Ensure information provided is accurate and presented in a useful and understandable format.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other employees at all levels in all departments.
• Assist in the development and training of the Property Technicians.
What Is Required:
Level I:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an accounting related field.
Level II:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an accounting related field.
What Is Desired:
• Experience with PowerPlan software
• Experience with PeopleSoft accounting software
• Broad understanding of accounting principles, theories and practices of business units.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of FERC accounting preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner while working in a multifaceted environment and adapting to changing priorities.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and digital literacy.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Ability to lead a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business information.
