The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer IV. The EHS Engineer IV will lead and manage EHS compliance programs and corresponding EHS teams for Manufacturing and administration areas at Raritan, NJ.This position will manage EHS programs to ensure and maintain certification to ISO14001 (Environmental Management System), OHSAS18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System), OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and State Environmental Leadership/Stewardship Status.

This position is in Raritan, NJ.

The Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage environmental and safety compliance programs and EHS teams for the Raritan, NJ site.

  • Provide technical support for multiple independent sites including Pompano Beach, FL, Rochester, NY and Memphis, TN, Waltham, MA and Miami, FL.

  • Develop and manage Environmental Sustainability & EHS Risk Reduction Strategy (e.g., hazardous waste) for both the Raritan site, as well as Corporate Sustainability Program.

  • Lead multi-site facility and EHS teams to drive standardization and cost efficiencies in areas of EHS compliance programs, energy/greenhouse gases, waste management, environmental sustainability, and EHS/Facilities standards/specifications.

  • Lead environmental regulatory inspections and 3rd party certifications (ISO14001, State Environmental Leadership/Stewardship Status, etc.) and maintain certification status. Lead and ensure compliance with site's environmental management systems, track, and trend of EHS metrics including energy use, water consumption, ozone depleting substances, notices of violation, etc.

  • Lead the site remediation program and interface with NJDEP/EPA to ensure compliance with program cleanup requirements and active remediate and manage areas of historic pollution.

  • Lead Emergency Services Teams.

  • Lead EHS Committee.

  • Participate in HazMat Team.

  • Participate on Environmental Product Lifecyle Team (EPLC).

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline

  • 5+ years in Occupational Safety, Environmental Compliance, and/or Industrial Hygiene

  • Up to 10% Travel - Domestic (as necessary)

The Key Working Relationships
  • Internal Partners: Plant/Site Director/Manager, Value Stream Manager(s), Quality Plant/Site Director/Manager, Human Resources; Occupational Health, Site Facility Manager/Supervisor, Functional Leaders within Marketing, Finance, IT, CTS, Regulatory, Executive Leaders; Commercial Operations Vice Presidents, Directors and Managers

  • External Partners: Local, State and Federal Regulators; OSHA VPP Regional Managers. Public at Large.

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory or warehouse environment and include handling of biological materials (blood pathogens) and potentially hazardous chemicals. Up to 40% of the time at desk, and 60% of the time standing or sitting for extended periods of time on the production floor/facility mobility (ex: bending, climbing ladders, etc.), and the ability to lift up to 30lbs. Flexible work hours to help Operations; will be expected to have a level of availability outside of normal business hours to help assist with permitted work for shutdown activities (confined space, crane lift, etc.), as well as emergency situations at the site should they occur.
