GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Hinds Community College is seeking a qualified English instructor for the 2025-2026 academic year who will be responsible for teaching a variety of English courses that could include but are not limited to developmental courses, Composition I and II, literature, and other courses in the English curriculum. The position is campus-based, serving the academic needs of the Raymond campus and the college. Instructors are to teach assigned classes according to the overall goals and objectives of the instructional department. Additional responsibilities of the instructor would include submitting all necessary paperwork to assure proper documentation of student attendance and evaluation.

Candidates must hold a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in English.

The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching and will have taught college-level English courses before.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

Implements the specific aims of the college and department by:

  • Understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college mission.

  • Creating and facilitating student-centered environments.

  • Understanding of and ability to work with academic, developmental, and transfer programs.

  • Exhibiting knowledge of contemporary and innovative methods of instructional delivery and curriculum development including the use of technology for instructional delivery.

  • Working as a team player in multi-cultural diverse working environment.

  • Maintaining current credentials as required in respective field.

  • Attending meetings as required by institutional deans or department chairs, to include continued professional development and trainings.

  • Utilizing the college email system for communication with students and staff.

  • Arriving at least 15 minutes before the start of class and being prepared to stay after class to assist students.

  • Using teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential, specifically the required use of the college’s learning management system.

  • Providing necessary information for students—information that includesstandardized syllabi data.

  • Submitting necessary instructional information in a timely manner, to include reporting no shows, attendance/grade reports, audit verifications, course/instructor evaluations, etc.

  • Participating in student/teacher andfaculty/administratorevaluations and performance review conferences.

  • Developing personal and professional improvement plans in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations.

  • Including effectiveness measures in teaching and report data as directed; coordinate and implement measures as directed by department to respond to information from student learningoutcomes/institutionaleffectiveness results.

  • Completing required training for teaching in specific areas, such as required training for teaching in the hybrid instructional format.

  • Performing other duties, as assigned by appropriate supervisor or department chair/dean.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
