Job Overview

L&H Companies is experiencing growth and is seeking a full-time Paint Prep Technician who prepares components for painting, which includes sanding, taping, body filler to ensure smooth paint finish.  Candidate must be able to read, comprehend, and work from plans.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Notify management of materials needed, as applicable.
  • Contributes to team effort by completing related duties as needed.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Safety and Workplace Organization.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of industrial materials.
  • Ability to demonstrate adherence to inventory protocol and other procedures.
  • Advanced understanding and use of power tools, as well as manufacturing tools.
  • Safety Management.
  • Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate, legal manner.
  • Clean equipment and work areas.
  • Buff and wax completed paint work.
  • Remove materials, parts, or workpieces from painting or coating machines, using hand tools.
  • Set up portable equipment, such as ventilators, exhaust units, ladders, or scaffolding.
  • Apply primer over any repairs made to surfaces.
  • Fill small dents and scratches with body fillers and smooth surfaces to prepare for painting.
  • Polish materials, workpieces, or finished products.
  • Prepare surfaces for finishing.
  • Mix ingredients to create specific finishes.
  • Smooth metal surfaces and edges.
  • Mix paints to color specifications or original colors, stirring or thinning paints using spatulas or power mixing equipment.
  • Remove grease, dirt, paint, or rust from surfaces in preparation for paint application, using abrasives, solvents, brushes, blowtorches, washing tanks, or sandblasters.
  • Sand and apply sealer to properly dried finish.
  • Apply protective or decorative finishes to workpieces or products.
  • Operate painting or coating equipment.
  • Ability to use a Dual Action (DA) sander.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to maintain a clean, safe, working environment.
  • Contribute to Workplace Organization (WPO)
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.  Automotive body work experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend and squat frequently.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to utilize various handheld power tools.
