Meta Camera Systems Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

As a Camera Systems Engineer at Meta, you will be a Single Threaded Owner (STO) of the camera systems in Meta Reality Labs (RL) products, responsible for the end-to-end technical delivery of the camera modules and making sure the module is well integrated to the system, meeting system requirements. This role focuses on ensuring that technical specifications, requirements, and deliverables are met through close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including architecture, design, validation, process and systems engineering. The STO is accountable for the entire lifecycle of the module, from initial concept through to production, with a strong emphasis on aligning design and simulation with actual build data, ensuring the module/system is delivered to spec.

Required Skills:

Camera Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Technical leadership and ownership, serving as the primary point of contact for all technical aspects of the camera modules.

  2. Define detailed technical specifications and requirements for the camera modules, ensure that specifications are comprehensive, achievable, and aligned with the overall system architecture and project goals.

  3. Analyze data from actual builds to validate design and simulation accuracy, lead iterative design cycles based on data analysis to ensure continuous improvement and refinement of the camera module.

  4. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including architecture, sensor, mechanical, electrical, optical, validation, process, testing, quality, reliability, system hardware and software engineering, etc. to ensure that the camera modules integrate seamlessly into the overall system, resolve technical challenges, and drive project success.

  5. Identify, communicate, and resolve technical risks throughout the development process and implement mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and deliverables.

  6. Maintain detailed documentation of all technical decisions, design iterations, and testing results.

  7. Regularly report on progress, challenges/escalations, and successes to leadership and other stakeholders.

  8. Lead camera testing and validation efforts to confirm that the final product meets all technical and performance criteria.

  9. Travel both domestically and internationally up to 10% time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

  2. 5+ years of experience in camera module design, optical simulation, metrology, testing and lab work to verify imaging component, assembly and system level performance.

  3. Experience with high-volume consumer electronics manufacturing, partnering with offshore suppliers and contract manufacturers.

  4. Experience in leading cross-functional communication and collaboration.

  3. Imaging lens design and characterization experience

  4. Image sensor design, characterization and tuning experience

  5. Color science and image quality evaluation experience

  6. ISP tuning experience

  7. Camera module manufacturing processes and production testing

  8. Depth sensing system design and manufacturing experience

  9. Electrical circuit design and testing experience

  10. Mechanical tolerance analysis experience

  11. Image processing in Python or Matlab

Public Compensation:

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
